Midland Flyfishers Limited (a company limited by guarantee without a share capital. Company number 00630294

Club Background and Current Fishing

The Midland Flyfishers Club was founded in 1931 as a members club and on 12th June 1959 it became incorporated as a private company limited by guarantee without a share capital.  Its objects are to provide fishing for its members and to foster and maintain high standards of salmon, trout and grayling fishing.

The Club is fortunate to own, through the efforts of its members, nearly 4 miles of double bank fishing on the Welsh Dee above Llangollen. In 2025 the Club purchased the Spreadeagle fishery; some 3-miles of double bank fishing on the Wye. Whilst The Wye and the Dee are known as salmon rivers, the Dee is a world renowned grayling fishery and excellent wild trout can be found on both these rivers as well as a barbel and chub on the Wye particularly.

Additionally, the Club owns stretches known for wild trout and grayling fishing on the River Lugg, as well as on the Byne and Quinny Brooks. The Club can also access wild trout fishing on the River Rea, in Shropshire, the Arrow in Herefordshire and also in Derbyshire on the limestone spring-fed Bradford, Lathkill and Wye rivers and the freestone Derwent through the Peacock Flyfishers (Haddon Estate, Derbyshire).  We also have trout and still water fishing through arrangement with Barnt Green Fishing Club and also at Blithfield Reservoir.

How the Club is managed by its members

The Club has no paid officials, apart from part-time keepers and river watchers.  Its extensive fisheries are managed by a committee of members, with salmon and trout sub-committees.   The Club produces a monthly bulletin to inform and keep members abreast of the Club’s activities.  Members are expected to serve on the committees if requested and to assist in running the Club and its waters.  These activities range from acting as fishery wardens and participating in river maintenance to taking on greater responsibilities as Officers of the Club.  When joining the Club, a new member can expect and should be prepared to accept an invitation to act in such a capacity for at least some period during their membership.

Joining Midland Flyfishers

The Club is not a fishing syndicate and upholds the aims of the founding members and principles of a club of friends with like-minded interests in fishing.  Social functions are held throughout the year to provide members with an opportunity to meet and enjoy the social side of our sport.
To be eligible to join, an applicant must be proposed and seconded by existing members of the Club and must have attended 3 club events, either social or a bank clearing party.
